North West Upgrading is a Calgary-based company building an independent heavy oil upgrader approximately 45km north-east of Edmonton, Alberta in the Industrial Heartland Area of Sturgeon County.  The Upgrader will be built on a greenfield site that is close to many of the necessities required to support construction and operation. This project is being developed in response to significant increases in bitumen and heavy oil production in Alberta, primarily from the Province’s vast reserves of oil sands. The North West Upgrader will enhance the economic value of Alberta’s bitumen production by upgrading it to value added products: ultra low sulphur diesel, diluent, low sulphur vacuum gas oil and butane. The Project will be a significant, long-term contributor to Alberta’s economy.
